At present West Berkshire Council provides:

a weekly collection service for waste-bins, currently on Tuesdays
a fortnightly collection service for recyclable newspapers, magazines, bottles and cans
a collection service on request for bulky items, including scrap cars.

Collection days may vary over holiday periods; notice is given of the change at the preceding collection. Should collections otherwise not happen, "Streetcare" can be contacted by telephone on 01635 519 080 (office hours)

The "tip" at Pinchington Lane in Newbury now has recycling facilities for

Furniture      Scrap Metal    Used Oil      Clothing     Cardboard and other paper
Plastic        Green waste     Glass            Tyres        Batteries
Fridges & Freezers            Electrical                                     amongst other things

and the staff are helpful, both at ensuring recyclable items go to the right section and at getting things out of cars!

For Green Waste try composting; if you need to learn about it, look at the West Berks site http://www.westberks.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3457 where they will sell you a composting bin at a subsidised price, the RecycleNow site http://www.recyclenow.com/compost/  and the RHS site  http://www.rhs.org.uk/Learning/research/horticultural_themes/composting.asp (both links available off West Berks too).

A further means of recycling is "Freecycle", which is an Internet and email-based means of "rehoming" items that you no longer want, and perhaps obtaining something that someone else has no further use for. Our area is covered by "Newbury Freecycle" - this "Group" is hosted by "Yahoo" and can be found at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newburyfreecycle/
